?Sweet sorghum

Sweet sorghum is a hardy, nutritious, biofuel crop that offers solutions in drought-hit southern Africa because of El-Nino phenomenon.

Sweet sorghum:

It is the most important millet crop occupying largest area among the cereals next to rice.
One of the key characteristics of sweet sorghum varieties is their drought resistance. It allows them to enter a dormant state during extended periods of dryness and resume growth afterwards.

?Required climatic conditions
The crop does not prefer high rainfall as high soil moisture or continuous heavy rain after flowering may hamper sugar increase.
All soils that have medium depth with good drainage are suited.
Depending on the soil (red, black, laterite and loamy) and its depth water requirement may vary which in turn decide the suitability of the crop.

?Unique features of Sorghum
It has ability to withstand low water and nitrogen inputs, as well as its tolerance for salinity and drought stress, makes it an ideal crop for farmers in arid regions.
Research has shown that, under intense water scarcity conditions, sweet sorghum makes use of its stalk juice to supplement its plant needs.

It is used in food industry and its stalk is used for the production of value-added products like ethanol, syrup and jaggery and bioenriched bagasse as a fodder and as a base material for cogeneration.
It can produce grains, animal feed and sugary juice, making it unique among crops.
The grains from sweet sorghum are prepared as steamed bread or porridge malt for traditional beer, as well as in commercial beer production across the continent.

? Paika Rebellion

The Paikas of Odisha were the landed militia (‘foot soldiers’ literally) who were involved in performing policing functions for the Gajapati rulers.
The kingdom of Khurda had granted them rent-free land for the military services that they offered to the kingdom.
Paika Rebellion of 1817 is an armed revolt against the British by the Paikas of Khurda in Odisha.
The rebellion took form and shape under the leadership of Baxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhara.
Soon after taking over Odisha from the Marathas in 1803, the British started to introduce a system of administration that angered the King of Khurda, Mukunda Deva II.
Many other activities of the British like the introduction of a new currency system, oppression of the Paikas in the hands of the officials of the company, ban on making salt from seawater gave rise to widespread dissatisfaction and hatred against the British.
The king planned revolt against British in collaboration with the Paikas.
The revolt enjoyed a great level of support from the Kings of Nayagarh, Kujang, Kanika, Village headmen,
peasants and zamindars.
Initially, the Paikas seemed to have gotten hold of the battle and saw some victory, but was suppressed by the British in just three months.
Some Paikas however, fought guerilla warfare against the British yet the revolt was completely suppressed by 1819.
Therefore, it lasted for a year and a half before being ruthlessly suppressed by the British East India Company’s forces.
The result of the Paika Rebellion was disheartening as the rebels involved were awarded sentences of death, long-term imprisonment.
A commission was appointed by the British officials to enquire into the rebellion.
There were severe uprisings post this Paika rebellion initiated by people from Kandha & Koi region.
The major issue that prevailed post the Paika rebellion was the revenue policy which didn’t undergo any change.

?Palas Sculptures :

Great impetus was given to art under the reign of Pala rulers in Bihar and Bengal during the period 730 to 1110 A.D.
They were Buddhist by faith. They greatly encouraged centres of learning like Nalanda and Vikramshila, where the stupas and monasteries gave ample scope for the sculptor’s expression of an art which found stimulus in religion.
During this period art reached technical perfection.
The Pala Style is marked by slim and graceful figures, elaborate jewellery and conventional decoration.
The Pala rulers had intimate relations with Java which are evident in Hindu-Javanese sculpture, and painting of Nepal, Kashmir, Burma and Thailand.
An excellent specimen from Mahanad in West Bengal is this lovely fi gure of the personifi ed river goddess Ganga.

Google Chrome has been hit with another zero-day vulnerability, which has set the alarm bells ringing among users and cyber experts.

????-??? ?????????????
It is a system or software vulnerability unknown to the vendor and for which no patch or means of mitigation are available at the time it is discovered.
Zero-day exploit refers to the method or technique hackers use to take advantage of a ZDV, often via malware, and execute the attack.
Thus, a zero-day attack occurs when threat actors develop and release malware that targets the ZDV.
