Price broke the low last week. This tells us short term downtrend.
Friday was very volatile.
What would this entail?
1) Short term down trend, overall uptrend intact.
2) If you go long, be quick to manage your trades.

Note for Investors
Penned by a Dividend-Growth Investor who seeks to accumulate fundamentally solid stocks for the Long-Term.
?How to Spot and Avoid Value Traps?
Definition: A value trap happens when the price of a stock seems to be attractively valued (based on PE, PB and DY) but turns out to be a poor investment for the long-term. Here, I'll list down some common ones so that you could easily avoid them as an investor:
1) Anchoring Bias
Let's say, the price of a stock peaked at $10. Now, it's trading at $7. Some may look at it as being "undervalued" as its price had tumbled by 30%. But, without looking at its fundamentals and valuation, it's impossible to know if the stock is truly a bargain or a "value trap".
2) Low P/E Caused by One-Off Gains
A stock could report one-off gains from disposal of businesses, properties, plant and equipment. This would elevate the stock's earnings significantly, causing its EPS to rise and PE to fall sharply. As investors, the purpose of using PE to value a stock based on the ability of the business to earn recurring profits. Thus, it's best to adjust such earnings by eliminating these one-off gains / losses to get a much realistic PE.
3) Growing Profits, No Cash Flow
PE is still the most widely valuation tool by investors worldwide. Companies know this. Typically, there are stocks that report what investors like to see - Growing sales and net profits. But, a closer deep dive into their financial statements reveal that they don't generate positive cash flows, have growing trade receivables, and requires constant fundraising activities via bank borrowings, rights issue and private placements to stay afloat. For these stocks, PE is pretty much redundant as what investors want are real income and not just "beautified accounting profits".
4) The High Dividend Yield Trap
Some investors may look at screeners to find the highest dividend yield stocks. To them, a stock that pays 10% yield is better than one which is paying 4% yield. But often, that's not the case. It's one thing to pay 10% yield for one year only and another thing to have a stock that is capable of paying out 4% and growing for many years to come. So, the method to avoid this is to check the stock's fundamentals first to know the source of your dividends.
Happy Investing!
We'll be doing a Telegram Live on 31/5/2024 at 5-6pm to discuss how we could build ourselves a long-term dividend growth portfolio.

Did You Know?
Early electric computers used vacuum tubes. Vacuum tubes made it possible for these digital computers to be reprogrammed.
This was actually a leap in computing. However the tubes light up and attract bugs.
Engineers need to get rid of the bugs. Hence the term debugging.
Debugging is now a term used for the process of finding and fixing errors or bugs in the code of any software. When software does not work as expected, computer programmers study the code to find out why any errors occurred.
Investing involves being curious about the world. And innovation has led us to today's age of AI.
In the coming weeks, we'll share with you the history of AI and how it came to be what it is now.

Part 2
Without steady free cash flow, I find it hard to find an intrinsic value.
Let's do a technical valuation.
It is still in a downtrend channel. I would love to see some retracement toward 100.
It may break above the channel and find some support in between 111-117.
This is an example of how we usually do our trading plan. If it happens, it happens, we follow our plan.
With price looking extended and RSI in the overbought zone. My view leans toward a retracement.
Have a plan. Know why you enter, why you exit, and equally important, manage your trades.
Thank you and have a great evening.
Finally we are done with the questions! Keep them coming and thank you for your support. We appreciate you!

Question from one of us. Thank you kitty.
Let's talk about Meituan from a long term YoY fundamental view first.
Part 1
As of end March 2024, China stocks jumped because they are expecting more aggressive measures to stimulate the economy.
Revenue has been growing. Wonderful.
Operating income is finally positive in 2023!
If you are an investor would you buy or sell seeing that Meituan has been negative as they go about operating their business the past few years?
ROE and ROIC
Single digit. Business aside, I think a double figure would be something I am more keen on.
Operating margin
Sometimes negative. Low. Ask yourself, do you like it?
Free Cash flow
Sometimes negative, sometimes positive, 2023 is positive! YES!
Leverage
Debt to equity, not bad. Less than one.
Interest coverage is okay in 2023! Sometimes negative. Do you like it?

The topic of soft landings or recessions can indeed be heavy, especially when discussing the overall economic outlook of countries. Let's simplify things by focusing on the unemployment rate, a popular and straightforward economic indicator. ?
Unemployment data is crucial because it reflects the health of the labor market, which is closely tied to consumer spending, business investment, and overall economic activity. However, solely relying on this number can be limited, as it's like using yesterday's weather to plan today's picnic in the stock market. To make smarter decisions, we look at the trend of the data. For instance, a rising unemployment rate over several months could signal a slowdown in economic growth or even the beginning of a recession. ?
To answer the question whether we are foreseeing a soft landing or recession in the US, Europe, Japan, and ASEAN markets by Q4 2024, my answer is we Don’t know! The only thing we can do is to teach you how to monitor yourself by looking at the economic. To make sure everyone can follow, we will use the easiest way to get the answer. It might not be the most accurate way, but I am sure everyone here will easily do it! If the unemployment rate is going up for 3 months in a row in any country, it shows the country may suffer an economic downturn. Then you need to get ready for any bad news on the economy. In this situation, try to take profit slowly and do not FOMO. ??
However, it's crucial to also consider other economic indicators alongside unemployment data for a comprehensive understanding of the economy's direction. Factors such as GDP growth, inflation rates, consumer sentiment, business investment, and international trade dynamics all contribute significantly to shaping the overall economic landscape. ??
If you're interested in delving deeper into this topic, we could potentially host a live session to discuss it further. Comment below if you would like to know more! ??
