An important point from the talk delivered in London by Shaykh al-Islam Mufti Muḥammad Taqi Usmani:
“We know that the Palestinians are being targeted by brutal bombing, children & women targeted & the whole world is seeing it like a drama. At this stage if we fight each other on Ijtihādi issues, it will be a misery for the Ummah.”

When reading the collections of ḥadīth, seeing names like ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān, Sālim ibn ʿAbdillāh, and Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib in the chains of transmission are what one would regard as the traditional and typical names of narrators. However, sometimes one encounters anomalous names such as “Ghundar” and “Ābi ‘l-Laḥm” and considering their meanings wonder, what a strange name? One may feel perplexed as to whether it is a paidonymic (kunyah), a nickname (laqab), or a name of attribution (nisbah). In this article, I have selected some of the most common and interesting titles/nicknames (alqāb) of narrators from a few books and briefly explained what they translate to, where they originate from, and what was the reason why narrators were given them. Shaykh Muhammad ʿAwwāmah states: 'There is a strong link between these components. The distinction of knowledge comes from its subject matter, which is the book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ, the greatest of all subjects. The student’s distinction is based on what they seek, the teacher’s distinction on what they teach, and education on the outcome it yields.'

The statements of the scholars of past contain no shortage of motivational encouragements towards the seeking of knowledge, we find in the Adab al Kabīr of al Muqaffa’,
“Make knowledge (a thing) beloved to you, until you become attached to it, until you make it apart of yourself. (Until) it becomes your distraction, your delight, your solace, and your greatest objective.”
Since true love of knowledge falls nothing short of this (description), I would like to mention some practical and technical ways in which a person can gain such a love. I have gathered them in the following 10 points, you may read them here:

Our hearts feel sad. Our cheeks are damp with tears. As we bid farewell to our beloved friend (i.e. Ramaḍān), we reflect on the shortness of its visit. Is this a metaphor for life? Will it pass by like the blink of an eye?
Ibn Rajab (raḥimahullāh) reminds us, “O Servants of Allah! Ramaḍān is ending, and very little of it remains: whoever from you spent it well should finish it the same way; and whoever is falling behind should finish it in the best manner, for the reward of actions are determined by their ending.”
Let us not waste these last precious moments doing Eid preparations. Let us not become complacent about attending the tarāwīḥ prayers, just because the imām has finished the recitation (khatm) of the Qur’ān.
“What matters the most are excellent endings, not faulty beginnings.” – Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullāh)
[Bidding Farewell to Ramadan, Life With Allah]

A common misunderstanding which deters people from practising Islam is the idea that Islamic teachings are difficult to practise. Alongside this, there are many opportunities a person comes across on a daily basis to amass reward for the Hereafter, but which one missed due to lack of knowledge.
As Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani says, “Intention can transform soil into gold and gold into soil.”
Whichever act you carry out, do so with the correct intention, seeking the pleasure of Allah. A correct intention can transform an ordinary permissible action (e.g eating) into an act of worship. Our beloved Prophet ﷺ said, “Indeed you do not spend anything seeking the pleasure of Allah, except that you will be rewarded for it, including what you place in your wife’s mouth” (Bukhārī).
Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani mentions in the introduction to his book, Easy Good Deeds:
"In this world, we do not realise the true importance of storing up good deeds, but when our eyes shall close in eternal sleep and when we shall be summoned before Allah to answer for whatever we did in this world, then we would know how important even the most ordinary good deed shall become. Good deeds are the currency of the Afterlife; gold and silver and worldly coins shall avail nought, the only question to be asked would be "How many good deed have you brought to be reckoned?" If then the pocket would be empty, one would rue and repent why the roster of deeds was not filled up with good acts. But then all repentance would be of no avail as the time for acts would be long past."
