macOS Sequoia App Compatibility Megathread
I just updated to macOS Sequoia! Here are all the apps I regularly use on macOS and whether they work well.
Finder - Works the same as Sonoma
Safari - Works the same as Sonoma
Mail - Works the same as Sonoma
Messages - Works well. Nice new tapbacks.
Maps - Works well and supports new features.
Google Earth Pro - Works the same as Sonoma
Photos - Works well with new features
Pixelmator Pro - Works the same as Sonoma
FaceTime - Works well
Zoom - Works well
Notes - Works well with new features. Math notes is a bit finicky though.
Preview - Works fine
Pages, Numbers, and Keynotes - Work the same as Sonoma
Xcode - Works fine but got a circular reference error when using the MarkdownUI package to compile GeminAI. Found another Markdown package and it works well.
Eclipse - Works the same as Sonmoa
Terminal - Works the same as Sonoma
Coderunner - Works the same as Sonoma
CleanMyMac - Works the same as Sonoma
MacBot - Works the same as Sonoma
GeminAI - Works the same as Sonoma
Official ChatGPT app - Works the same as Sonoma (if not a bit better)
AlDente - Works the same as Sonoma
One Switch - Works the same as Sonoma
CleanShot - Works the same as Sonoma but every time after restart and you try to use it, there is an alert asking you if you want to continue allowing it to record your screen. It is not a big deal though. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
TextSniper - Works the same as Sonoma except for that hideous alert. Thankfully, it only appears once after restart.
Bartender - Works the same as Sonoma, hallelujah! There is that alert but it's not a big deal.
Overall system stability is pretty good as well. No noticeable major OS bugs as far as I can tell that affect usability. There may be a few things here and there but overall, the system should work fine with most, if not, all of your Mac apps right now.
Stability and Compatibility score: 9.5/10

MacZip - A really good app for file compression and decompression
Hi, I was looking for an app to compress and decompress files, something like the equivalent of WinRAR or WinZip for Mac, I tried BetterZip but it is very expensive, I also tried Keka but it only allows you to compress and decompress, so I wanted an app that, in addition to zipping and unzipping files, would allow you to view the contents of the file without unzipping it first, I can do this with MacZip. It's free, I think it deserves more recognition.

MagicMenu from iBoysoft - Not recommended
I recently saw a recommendation for on Reddit and decided to try out the app. According to my records, it's the 1663rd app I have purchased from Apple, and it is the first one that I have ever requested a refund on. When I decided to purchase a one-year subscription, I was billed $19.99 rather than the $9.99 it clearly states as the price in the product description on the app store. There was also no free trial as advertised.
MagicMenu adds a few options to the right-click context menu in Finder. Almost all of these actions are found in my preferred file manager, or in single purpose utilities like , the native Photos app, and . Other Finder replacements, like offer custom right-click menus as well. If you just want right click actions in the finder, is only $.99, and is $2.99, although both are from Chinese developers if that gives you pause.

Things You Can Do With Obsidian
Obsidian is a pretty well know app, especially among the more technically inclined crowd. At its core, Obsidian is a free note taking app that saves all it's content as plain text Markdown files on local storage, whether that be on your Mac, phone or iPad. There are also Windows, Android and Linux versions and many options for syncing (iCloud, Syncthing etc,) including a $4 a month option built into the app. What gives Obsidian superpowers are the 1600+ plugins, all free, that you can use to make the program do all kinds of customizable things.
Here are a few examples:
1. Consolidate your books read, music listened to, and movies and TV watched into a super media database using RSS
2. Keep a journal that syncs your completed to-dos, appointments, and the weather along with whatever content you manually enter
3. Backup your bookmarks, notes and highlights from
4. Serve as a local archive of web pages you want to keep for reference
5. Publish straight to blogging services

Indie Devs - Be kind and professional to your customers
Dear Indie Developers,
It is crucial to maintain a courteous and professional demeanour on your support forums (or e-mails) towards your paying customers.
Please avoid obnoxious conduct
Rest assured, when such behaviour occurs, I have no qualms in discontinuing my patronage, and I'm sure others feel the same
Thank you

Replacement to Notability?
I’m looking for a similar app to Notability where I can sketch notes on iPad, but ideally it would have a more fully fledged Mac app.
Bonus feature would be an app that can either auto import PDFs or one that syncs with a cloud to pull in PDFs from there.

The new Zen sounds application. I have been working on (first release)
I’m thrilled to share my very first macOS application with you all. It’s a project close to my heart, focusing on delivering an exceptional auditory experience. Although it’s still in development, I’d love your feedback to help shape its future.
If you’re curious to try it out and be part of this journey, check it out here:

Lingon X, a tool for examining scheduled processes and creating your own
Lingon X, a venerable Mac utility from developer Peter Borg, occupies a relatively unique space in that it provies a comprehensive alalysis of all the sheduled processes on you machine. It looks at the processes that are particular to your account, those that apply to all users, those assigned to root, at all login items and at privileged helper tools. You may very well find remnants of programs you thought you deleted or disabled long ago. Any process can be set to relaunch automatically, helpful if you have anything prone to quitting (like Google Drive does for me). You can disable or remove anything that is running which you no longer use or thought you had already deleted. The reporting tool, EtreCheck, provides some of that info but does not provide a mechanism to control it.
.
Like other Mac automation tools Keyboard Maestro and Hazel, Lingon X can be used to schedule reminders, send emails, and move files. It will also open your essential apps, launch scripts, and run commands at specific times or when triggered by events. Helpful to both power users and newbies alike the interface is simple but has sophisticated capabilities.
Lingon X comes in two versions. The one I've reviewed is $19.99 and is available from the developer's website. It can often be found offered in software bundles from places like AppSumo and BundleHunt. Do not get the cheaper App Store alternative as it lacks many features due to sandboxing.

Simply browse through you last commands with zshistory
Hello,
I recently launched an update for my Mac menu bar extension, enhancing your browsing experience for commands. Zshistory now also supports ohMyZsh and incorporates a user-friendly terminal app, ensuring you never have to leave your terminal to search through your command history.
Best regards Liam
The app is available for 2.99€ under

PiP for any app
Is there an app that can make any app that I have open into a picture in picture view? So that i can have it as a small, resizable window in any other app in the foreground

Privacy-centered app that automatically renames downloaded files (no AI)
I use Anna's Archive to download pdfs for personal use, but I'd prefer not to have -"Anna’s Archive" in the file name. I'm simply looking for an easy way to remove "Anna's Archive" from the filename without having to do this manually every time. There are other use cases too such as limiting file names to the first 10 characters for example.
Is there anything like this?

Any quick capture/management visual library app?
I’ve heard of , but the fact that it messes with the folder structure is a bit of a dealbreaker. I’ve also found which seems to have a similar quick capture feature like eagle, but limited features and format support. Has anyone use it? I haven’t found a lot of information online, and don’t know of any similar apps like these two.
Thanks for the help!

I made a macOS menu bar app to help you convert clipboard data fast
Hey Reddit!
I started working on this 2 weeks ago after spending much time searching google for base64 encode websites. And of course other converters.
That is super slow and constantly breaks my development flow.
So I built Hammer for 2 reasons: 1. Save time and concentrate on the tasks at hand. 2. Be confident the data stays locally.
I have been using it ever since and it has been very handy and I hope it will be for you. Would love to hear what are your thoughts on this.

request M1. App that is like GenFill of photoshop but only for removing objects? Not necessarily creating new stuff with a prompt. Just straight up healing brush but more advanced or AI level.
I need to remove many objects but PS genfill is too expensive for personal usage.

Scanning and organization apps
Hi! I've looked through this sub and think I found a few things to help me but I would love some clarification on these apps and how they work...
I'm looking for something to help me get rid of a lot of the paper in my life and "file" things electronically so I don't need a bunch of filing cabinets. Between work stuff, tax stuff, contracts, 401k stuff, and so on, I have too much paper and it's unruly. Below are my parameters...
\- I'm open to buying a mobile scanner but it looks like most of these things work fine with my phone. I also have a printer that can scan as well. Also, open to paying for the right software but I need to try it first.
\- Must be able to have access to the files across all my devices, laptop, iPhone, iPad, and would love to be able to use the app (rulemaking or organizing) across devices as well.
\- Must have some form of searchability within the text of the image (OCR).
\- Would love some form of automation (can set rules) so if it "reads" the document as something related to 401k, it will go into that folder.
\- Must be able to have folders within folders (or just a really solid filing system) so I can organize if something for example goes back years.
\- Would love to stay away from Adobe and other subscription-based models.
\- Ideally, something that can both scan and organize so I'm not using multiple apps for this whole thing but I don't know if that's possible. Mostly, I'm looking for advice on apps and workflow.
\- Something that integrates into my iCloud storage I already pay for or something cheap, safe, and reliable. I've been seeing stories of people losing everything in their cloud by getting locked out or something similar.
\- Not opposed to Google or other big names. I have Microsoft apps, Google apps, and other apps, so I'm not beholden to any one thing. Usability is paramount. I'm not a wiz but I'm above the average Jane. What that means is, that I don't need something wildly complex but something with freedom, flexibility, and something that's easy to use when I'm tired and feeling dumb in the brain.
I've found multiple scanner apps; Scanner Pro (Readdle), Scanner App: Genius Scan (The Grizzly Labs), and SwiftScan (Maple Media Apps). I've also found Devonthink, Hazel, and Raycast. I haven't fully looked into how they work, so any advice, input, guidance, whatever, would be much appreciated. Devonthink looks really promising, very powerful, and like what I'm looking for but I'm not sure. Admittedly, I'm just scratching the surface of this idea and I've already asked the smartest person I know what they do and since they are a Windows/Andriod user, they're only so much help.
I am at your mercy. Please be gentle. And thank you!

Any good offline automatic file backup apps to backup to the same drive, preferably free?
Time Machine can only backup to other drives. I tried Carbon Copy Cloner but I want it to automatically backup files whenever one is changed no matter how much data is changed and without a threshold. The minimum threshold is 10MB which doesn't cut it since I have many small files I edit.

Using Better Display to Disable HDR and Dolby Vision
I have an 2020 Mac Book Air. I would like to update to either a 24 inch iMac or a 15 Inch Mac Book Air. The problem is that the screens have been giving me dry eye and headaches when I look at them at the Apple Store. If I purchase either of these computers can I used Better Display to disable HDR and Dolby Vision. I'm pretty sure those things are the issues that give me eye strain.
